Digital Storytelling
Kevin Kelly, in his talk on TED (2007), explained his Complexity Theory, in which the Web will change over the 5,000 days in three ways. I believe that digital storytelling falls within the domain of this theory. The first way in which this technology is transforming the web is by embodying it. This means that digital storytelling encapsulates the human need to tell and listen to stories. The second way is by restructuring the web. This technology is restructuring the way people create and share their stories. It is not enough to just listen to someone tell you a story, or to read a story from a book anymore. Digital storytelling allows for the reader/viewer to interact with the story and for the narrator/listener to challenge themselves to find more creative ideas to engage their audience. The last means by which this technology can transform the Web is by codependency. It is codependent on the existence of the Internet and the World Wide Web to reach people from all around the world. Without the Internet, people would have to resolve to more ancient means of getting their stories heard.
